Lavandula x intermedia 'Grosso' (Purple Lavandin) - This lavender is the most commonly used to extract lavender oil. The flower spikes are compactly covered with violet-blue flowers that bloom in the summer through fall. This plant grows to about 2 feet by 2 feet, is drought tolerant, and appreciates a sunny location. It is hardy to about 15 degrees F. Reportedly, the blooms are edible. This is a great dark lavender for the garden and for cutting sachets.
The description above is based on our research and observations of this plant growing in our nursery, in our own garden and in other gardens in the Santa Barbara area. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has additional information about this plant, even if they disagree with what we have written.
